Mijn werk begon niet binnen instituties. Als student was ik onderdeel van University of Colour — een grassroots-beweging gericht op het dekoloniseren van het curriculum. We werkten samen met universiteiten, musea en culturele instellingen. Maar ik was wantrouwig naar wat er binnen gebeurde. Ik geloofde niet dat verandering kon komen uit dezelfde structuren die het probleem hadden gemaakt. My work didn't begin inside institutions. As a student I was part of University of Colour — a grassroots movement focused on decolonising the curriculum. We worked alongside universities, museums and cultural institutions. But I was wary of what happened on the inside. I didn't believe change could come from the same structures that had produced the problem.

Jaren later leerde ik die structuren wel van binnenuit kennen. Bij Amnesty International, de Willem de Kooning Academie, Soho House. En ik zag hoe vertrouwd die logica is. Mensen spreken met overtuiging over rechtvaardigheid, terwijl de organisatie haar oude vorm vasthoudt. Dat verschil tussen woord en daad — daar zit mijn werk. Years later I came to know those structures from within. At Amnesty International, the Willem de Kooning Academy, Soho House. And I saw how familiar the logic was. People speak with conviction about justice, while the organisation holds onto its old shape. That gap between word and act — that's where my work sits.

Ik combineer academische diepgang (MA New Media & Digital Culture, Universiteit van Amsterdam) met grassroots-praktijk. Goede analyse hoeft niet abstract te worden. Goede strategie hoeft niet bij oppervlakkige verandering te blijven. Ik probeer daar tussenin te gaan zitten. Vragen serieus nemen. Niet bang zijn voor wrijving. I combine academic depth (MA New Media & Digital Culture, University of Amsterdam) with grassroots practice. Good analysis doesn't have to turn abstract. Good strategy doesn't have to end in surface change. I try to sit in between. Take questions seriously. Not be afraid of friction.

Wat ik doe What I do

Mijn werk valt grofweg uiteen in vier vormen, die in de praktijk vaak in elkaar overlopen. Onderzoek — ik bestudeer instituties, beleid en technologie, en vertaal dat naar inzichten die organisaties kunnen gebruiken. Strategisch advies — begeleiding rond inclusie, sociale veiligheid en cultuurverandering, niet als project maar als blijvende verschuiving. Schrijven — essays en publiek onderzoek, soms academisch en soms persoonlijk. En facilitatie — gesprekken voeren tussen directies, teams en gemeenschappen, vooral over wat meestal ongezegd blijft. My work falls roughly into four forms that often run into one another in practice. Research — I study institutions, policy and technology, and translate that into insights organisations can use. Strategic advisory — guidance on inclusion, social safety and cultural change, not as a project but as a lasting shift. Writing — essays and public research, sometimes academic and sometimes personal. And facilitation — guiding conversations between leadership, teams and communities, mostly about what tends to stay unsaid.

Wat ik heb gedaan What I've done

Bij Amnesty International bouwde ik tussen 2023 en 2025 een organisatiebrede content- en communicatiestrategie tijdens interne spanning rond diversiteit en de bestaande achterban. De strategie vertrok vanuit publieksonderzoek, zodat zowel oude als nieuwe doelgroepen zich konden vinden, en wordt nog steeds gebruikt. At Amnesty International, between 2023 and 2025, I built an organisation-wide content and communication strategy during a moment of internal tension around diversity and the existing donor base. The strategy was grounded in audience research so both existing and new publics could find their footing, and it is still in use.

Bij Soho House & Co werk ik sinds 2023 als Global Diversity & Inclusion Board Member samen met de Global Director DEI aan internationale strategieën rond sociale veiligheid, representatie en inclusieve hospitality. Ik zette een programma op dat dertig professionals met een gemarginaliseerde achtergrond verbond. Wat overbleef is een community die zichzelf draagt. At Soho House & Co, since 2023, I have worked as a Global Diversity & Inclusion Board Member with the Global Director DEI on international strategies around social safety, representation and inclusive hospitality. I built a programme that connected thirty professionals from underrepresented backgrounds. What remained is a community that holds itself.

University of Colour medeoprichtte ik in 2015. Een grassroots-organisatie die academisch beleid, onderwijs en publiek debat blijvend heeft beïnvloed rond dekolonisatie. Meer dan twintig projecten, gesprekken tussen studenten, docenten en bestuurders. Droeg bij aan de diversiteitscommissie van de UvA. I co-founded University of Colour in 2015. A grassroots organisation that has shaped academic policy, teaching and public debate on decolonisation. More than twenty projects, dialogue between students, faculty and leadership. Contributed to the formation of the diversity committee at the University of Amsterdam.

Mijn masterthesis aan de UvA (2022) onderzocht hoe de NFT-tentoonstelling Reloading zich verhoudt tot dekoloniale narratieven binnen blockchain-technologie. De centrale vraag: ontmantelt deze technologie bestaande machtsstructuren, of reproduceert ze die juist? My master's thesis at the University of Amsterdam (2022) examined how the NFT exhibition Reloading engages with decolonial narratives within blockchain technology. The central question: does this technology dismantle existing power structures, or quietly reproduce them?

Daarnaast ben ik bestuurslid bij de Merel Severs Theater Stichting en de Alumni Circle Media Studies van de UvA. Ik neem deel aan Leading Beyond Boundaries, een leiderschapsprogramma van de Gemeente Amsterdam rond transformatief leiderschap en systeemverandering. Alongside this I serve on the board of the Merel Severs Theatre Foundation and the Media Studies Alumni Circle at the University of Amsterdam. I'm currently part of Leading Beyond Boundaries, a leadership programme of the City of Amsterdam focused on transformational leadership and systems change.
